CDS/ISIS database software

UNESCO and Information processing tools

SWK is a set of tools for the control of CDS-ISIS databases quality and their maintenance. SWK aims to compile in a single environment, in a simple way, most of the functions that nowadays exist as stand alone programs, adding some innovations considered useful for CDS-ISIS databases administrators.

In line with the general philosophy of CDS-ISIS products, SWK is language independent, so it can be freely translated into most languages and alphabets. Bundled languages so far are: English, Spanish, French, Italian and Polish.

SWK user manual is currently available in English only.

SWK features the following utilities:

Global changes at field level
Global changes at character level
Global changes processes can be performed at the level of field/occurrence/subfield or at the level of character strings or position of characters and/or by field/occurrence/subfield

Record cleaner
Deletion of empty/blank spaces
Deletion of invalid chars or unwanted fields
Repetition of fields
Sort field by tag
Filing/sorting elements

Database Tomography
This application reports all the details about fields, subfields, and chars used, minimum, maximum and average lengths of fields, and checks the presence of non declared elements in the FDT or declared elements not being used.

Detection of duplicated records and keys
This tool detects duplicated keys in an inverted file, any .mst file key existing in any other inverted file, and duplicated records in the same or different databases.
Case (1). Duplicated key in an inverted file, selected by range of keys
Case (2). Detection of duplicated keys in a database checking its own inverted file
Case (3). Detection of a key from a database in an alternate inverted file
Case (4). Duplicated records detection

Parameter files editor
The SWK editor allows to create/modify parameter files with extensions: .par, .exp, .cip, and other files defined by the user.
The information of each parameter for each type of file is recorded in a special database named SWKPAR.

Retagging of fields
Change the number (tag) of a field according to an external table entered on the fly or read from an external file.

Selected records deletion
Logically deletion of selected records

Selected records “undeletion”
Undelete logically deleted and non empty records

Selected records export
Export to an ISO2709 file from the selected records.
This utility allows exporting an arbitrary set of MFNs

Deleted records print out
Presents a list of deleted records of the database into the range of the selection.

Message translator
This tool assists in the translation of menu and message databases used by CDS-ISIS. The databases should follow the naming convention explained in the CDS-ISIS manual for Windows, version 1.5, chapter “10 Adapting CDS-ISIS to local requirements”.
