Technical meeting of the Mayors of leading cities of the African Coalition of Cities against Racism and Discrimination

Following the successful launching in Nairobi, on September 20th 2006, of the Coalition of African Cities against Racism and Discrimination, UNESCO is hosting a technical meeting for the Mayors of the leading cities of the Coalition (Durban, Nairobi, Bamako, Kigali) on developing and formalizing the structure, plan of action, activities and various other elements of this network. The meeting shall take place in its Paris Headquarters on 26-27 March, 2007. These dates are important and highly symbolic as they are close to the celebration of the International Day to Combat Racism, celebrated every year on March 21st. It is not an open, large conference, but rather a working session exchange of ideas, proposals and suggestions leading to agreement on the statutes, structure, composition, follow up and planned activities of the Coalition. In the successful launching in Nairobi, already no fewer than 54 cities and several civil society organizations have joined the network and the meeting in Paris can also explore how the leading city Mayors may further seek additional cities in each of their sub-regions of the continent.
