Regional workshop of experts in ethics teaching in Dakar
A workshop of experts from Botswana, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia and Nigeria will be held in Dakar (Senegal). Existing teaching programmes in the field of bioethics and ethics will be discussed and analysed.
The Ethics Education Program of UNESCO is mapping existing teaching programs in the area of ethics in the Member States of UNESCO to respond to the needs of ethics teaching in Member States. In this context, UNESCO is organizing a workshop of experts from Botswana, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia and Nigeria in Dakar. They will discuss and analyse existing teaching programmes in the field of bioethics and ethics.

Objectives
  • To describe existing ethics teaching programmes (bioethics, ethics of science and technology, fundamental ethics.
  • To develop a network of experts in the teaching of ethics.
  • To establish a future plan of action on how ethics teaching programmes can be linked to existing ethics master programmes in the sub-region.
  • To encourage the establishment of UNESCO Chairs in bioethics and ethics of science and technology in the sub-region
Dates: 18-20 March 2009

Organisers: UNESCO Headquarters (Paris), UNESCO-BREDA (UNESCO Office in Dakar), UNESCO Office in Nairobi.

Participants: maximum 20 persons from 6 to 8 countries.

Venue: UNESCO-BREDA (Dakar).
