The crisis in the Central African Republic is worsening, yet the country’s humanitarian interventions are chronically underfunded. Despite previous relative stability in some of the areas, nearly 70% of the country is now de facto controlled by armed groups. There has been a 50% spike in internal displacement, with over 600,000 people internally displaced. Continuing sporadic surges of violence have forced over 500,000 people to remain as refugees in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of the Congo. Aid workers have had to reduce or stop operations in several areas due to underfunding or insecurity. UNFPA will continue to lead the gender-based violence sub-cluster.
