European Convention of Visual Artists of La Maison des Artistes – Publication of the white book

For a project of fiscal & social systems specific to artists, authors of graphic and visual original works

In the wake of a “social” Europe, in which social systems could be modified, la Maison des Artistes took the initiative to gather the executives of the representative organizations of visual artists in Europe on 15 and 16 December 2008, in Paris (Centre Georges Pompidou - Beaubourg), in view of redacting an European Convention on the visual artists' status.

La Maison des Artistes called all artists for the protection and the defense of social and fiscal systems specific to artists and authors of graphic and visual original works.

The white book is now available in English and in French on the Convention website at :

  • Points of the 1997 Declaration related to this subject:
    - Parag. 18: (...) New means of private funding, from major foundations to small companies, must be encouraged as supplementary sources of funds, particularly with a view to supporting the creation, the expression and the dissemination of contemporary works.
    - Parag. 19: Public and private funding sources are invited to respond favourably to requests made by artists in developing countries or countries in transition. UNESCO’s intervention is particularly necessary in order to identify and publicize existing opportunities for private funding of the arts worldwide.
