World Observatory on the Social Status of the Artist

Canada

This response to the questionnaire includes information on the social status of the artist in Canada. It has two parts, a response from the Federal Government of Canada, another from the Government of Quebec (in French).

In particular it includes information on:

  • the institutional and legal framework
  • working conditions
  • social welfare
  • remuneration
  • unemployment
  • illegal work
  • the artist’s place in society
  • tax status and tax advantages
  • collective representation
  • continuing training, research and financial aid
