The meeting, held on 15-16 May 2014 in Limassol, Cyprus, was organised by Cyprus (Ministry of Education and Culture; National Commission for UNESCO) in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice ( Italy). The main thematic topic for the meeting was “Intangible cultural heritage: youth, transmission and education”.

The event was attended by experts in representation of the ministries of culture of Albania; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria, Croatia; Cyprus; Greece; Montenegro; Republic of Moldova; Romania; Serbia; Slovenia; and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and representatives from neighbouring countries, namely Hungary and Italy.

Besides exchanging information on the most recent and important measures taken to implement the 2003 Convention in their respective countries, participants resolved to build on increasing public interest in intangible cultural heritage, particularly with regards to inscription on UNESCO lists, by focusing on capacity-building and education. The importance of regional cooperation with reference to multi-national nomination files, capacity-building, and coordination among different UNESCO Conventions was especially highlighted. In this context, participants confirmed the usefulness of the annual meetings of the South-East European Experts Network on Intangible Cultural Heritage as a platform for discussion and cooperation, and put forward recommendations for the next session.
