At the initiative of Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to UNESCO, you are warmly welcomed to join the International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre(IGRAC) event “Groundwater: our Hidden Treasure”. IGRAC is a UNESCO Category 2 Centre.

The news regularly reminds us that the resources of freshwater contained in the subsoil (groundwater resources) are under threat and that action is urgently needed for their preservation and sustainable management.

To set up plans for the sustainable management and governance of these precious water resources require investments in science, capacity-building and – first of all – awareness of what is at stake.

The International Groundwater Resource Assessment Centre joined the UNESCO Water Family with the mission to build information systems that give free access to the existing knowledge on groundwater resources, support capacity-building in the management of these resources, to raise awareness, and to assist Member States.

The event will be the occasion to briefly present an overview on the current status of the Planet groundwater resources and related challenges and on the most recent activities performed by the IGRAC international centre together with the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO (UNESCO-IHP) will be also presented.
