Under the patronage of the Conseil National de la Communication (media regulatory body), the UNESCO Office in Libreville is organizing, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a national workshop targeting journalists of public and private media in Gabon, on how to handle information during election.
On December 14, 2013 the Gabonese Government will organise the local elections with the first usage of biometric system. In order to support the Government, UNESCO with its partners, UNDP and AFRAM, is organizing a national workshop on information handling for journalists of public and private media.
One of the main contributions of the workshop is to give opportunity to about 95% of inland media to be represented, generally for the first time, at such training. Additionally, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Lambert-Noël Matha, will be making an explanatory presentation on the biometric system used for election in Gabon.

The objectives of the workshop are among other things: the strengthening of journalists’ skills on handling information at election; and the improvement of journalists’ knowledge level regarding electoral system in Gabon.
