Mr. Mohamed Djelid was appointed Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa in Nairobi (Kenya) on 12 January 2013. In this capacity he is responsible for the implementation of Education, Natural and Earth Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture and Communication Information UNESCO programmes.

In addition, the Regional Office hosts The African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI), Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological programme (IHP), International Coordinating Council of the Programme on Man and the Biosphere (MAB), and the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS).

In February 2001, Mr. Djelid joined UNESCO within the Division of Educational Policies and Strategies of the Education Sector where he implemented educational programme focusing on secondary, vocational and Higher education in Iraq.

In April 2004, Mr. Djelid was appointed UNESCO Representative to Burundi, where he was also entrusted with supervising the activities of the Programme of Education for Emergencies and Reconstruction. Providing services to countries in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region in the field of primary education, secondary education and the culture of peace, vocational training and environmental education

In July 2005, he was appointed UNESCO representative in Iraq where he supervised and supported the implementation of Education, Natural and Earth Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture and Communication Information UNESCO programmes.

Born in 1957, Mr Djelid holds a Diplôme d’étude supérieur en Commerce from the Institute of Commerce in Algiers, Algeria (1983) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada (1986).
