Training program on Inclusive Publishing and Web Accessibility in Kenya
The Government of Kenya is committed to the provision of equal access to quality and relevant education and training opportunities to all Kenyans. With the support of UNESCO, this programme aims at training 30 curriculum developers and multimedia designers in adapting interactive digital content for learners with special needs.
The constitution of Kenya states that “Every child has the right to free and compulsory basic education.” It also states that a person with any disability is entitled to access materials and devices to overcome constraints arising from the person’s disability. Research has shown that when ICTs are used appropriately in young children with special needs and disabilities, ICT can be a useful tool for supporting the children’s learning and development. In line with its mandate of providing quality curriculum and curriculum support materials, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has developed digital content for various levels of Education.
Capacity building on adapting interactive digital resources for this learners is a priority. It is against this background that the institute partner with UNESCO to provide technical expertise and training curriculum developers and multimedia designers to effective undertake the adaptation of digital content for learners with special needs.
The objectives of this project are:
1. Capacity build 30 Curriculum developers and multimedia designers on the adaptation of interactive digital content for learners with special needs.
2. Provide technical expertise to the Institute during the adaptation of interactive digital resources.
3. Train SNE teachers on the use of the adapted digital resources in curriculum delivery.
