The 9th Southeast Asia Biosphere Reserves Network (SeaBRnet) meeting which will held from 28 to 30 October 2015 in Malang, Indonesia, will address issues linked with the visibility, branding and communication strategies of the WNBR and especially the BRs in Southeast Asia. The meeting will be organized around keynote addresses, assessment of country reports from SeaBRnet members, special session on Indonesia, case studies session as well as strategic discussions and the will be concluded a field trip to Bromo-Semeru-Tengger-Arjuno BR.
Biosphere Reserves (BR), the living laboratories for sustainable development, promote an integrated approach towards sustainable development based on local community efforts and sound science. BR are the principal means for achieving the objectives of the MAB Programme and the visible instrument through which UNESCO as a whole could demonstrate its commitment to sustainability.
In order to achieve the general objective of MAB for 2015 – 2025, that aims to consolidate its traditional partnerships with scientific institutions and organizations, namely the “wide UNESCO Natural Sciences family”, but as well explore new partnerships with civil society organizations, local governments, development agencies, and the private sector, a better communication and visibility is required for MAB in the era of information and interconnectivity.
