UNESCO pays tribute to late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin

UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, and Israel’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Carmel Shama Hacohen, will host a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, former Prime Minister of Israel, on 4 November at UNESCO Headquaters (2.30 pm).

The ceremony will take place by UNESCO’s Square of Tolerance, a space designed by Israeli artist Dani Karavan and dedicated to the memory of Yitzhak Rabin. It will feature a musical interlude by the renowned violinist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Ivry Gitlis.

The event will commemorate the legacy of dialogue and tolerance of Yitzhak Rabin, who was awarded the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize, along with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, in 1993 in recognition of their efforts to broker peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

                                                           ****

Journalists wishing to cover the ceremony should request accreditation online.
