Objectives

  • To create an international intellectual platform for African and Asian institutions of higher education to contribute to achieving internationally-agreed goals for educational development, such as Education for All (EFA) and the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs).
  • To initiate an internationally formalised network for educational development among African and Asian universities so that they share experiences and knowledge about educational development and strengthen their research capacity in this area.
  • To provide advice and expertise to assist all countries, particularly the least developed, in conducting research on quality education, equity (including gender issues) and the teaching profession, which are conducive to well-informed policy formulation and implementation, to address these issues.
  • To produce research outcomes through comparative and collaborative studies, which are expected to be conducive to informed policy formulation and implementation.To develop methods of interdisciplinary and comparative research and capacity development activities through knowledge-sharing and mutual assistance in upgrading and developing academic and professional qualifications.
  • To enhance public awareness on educational development in specific circumstances through interaction and collaboration among partners.
  • To enable Network members to update and upgrade their capacities through linkages with universities around the world.
