UNESCO Bangkok and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO are co-organizing the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Mayors’ Forum for World Heritage Cities. As a commemorative event for the 40th Anniversary of the 1972 World Heritage Convention, this event will be co-hosted by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government and the Gyeongju Municipal Government in the city of Gyeongju, Republic of Korea from 29 to 30 August 2012.

Mayors play a key role in setting the agenda for balancing urban conservation concerns with development pressures to ensure sustainable growth and quality of life for city inhabitants. In recognition of the importance and pivotal role Mayors play, the Forum will provide a platform for invited Mayors as well as relevant municipal leaders from around the Asia-Pacific region to interact, share and develop a unique network together.
