The main objective of the Conference is to bring together professionals, museologists, educationists and responsible officers of specialized international, regional and sub-regional organizations and non-governmental organizations in order to elaborate strategies and mechanisms aimed at raising awareness among populations and decision-makers on the need to learn about, appreciate, safeguard and promote Africa's tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

This involves revisiting existing experiences of education in cultural heritage, redressing the balance between cultural heritage and development, and sharing common views for the enhancement of cultural institutions with a view to discussing and designing a comprehensive programme of education for cultural heritage development.
