Dix-neuf cavités, ou groupe de cavités (systèmes hydrogéologiques), sur un total estimé à 50000 abritent un patrimoine minéralogique exceptionnel des points de vue esthétique, scientifique et rareté. Ce patrimoine naturel est particulièrement riche en France, certains sites ou types de concrétions sont uniques au monde.
