Description
L'ensemble du site proposé aux titres de bien culturel, de bien naturel et de paysage culturel est essentiellement constitué de territoires appartenant à la zone centrale et périphérique du Parc national de la Vanoise (France) et de la totalité du Parc national du Grand Paradis (Italie).
Depuis 1976, le Conseil de l'Europe a décerné au Parc National de la Vanoise le Diplôme Européen, catégorie A comme patrimoine naturel.
La zone de contact entre les deux Parcs nationaux français et italiens se fait sur une distance de 14 km. Pour le site proposé du Parc national de la Vanoise, le territoire se divise en deux zones de législation différente en termes de protection de l'environnement : la zone centrale et la zone périphérique. Le Parc national du Grand Paradis, quant à lui, en comporte quatre.
