The UNESCO World Heritage Day in Germany takes place yearly, on the first Sunday in June. Every year, a different World Heritage site hosts the main event. In 2012, the event will be hosted by the World Heritage site “Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin”. Across Germany, the World Heritage sites invite the public to participate in special cultural activities. Designed as a forum for communication and personal encounters, the event aims at raising awareness of individual World Heritage sites among the local population. The ever-increasing number of visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Day in Germany is proof of the public’s growing interest in world heritage.

In 2012, the activities of Germany's World Heritage Day will focus on the 40th Anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
