Secretariat

UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage Section assumes the function of the Secretariat is of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (c.f. Article 10), and is working with all Member States of UNESCO, including those not party to the Convention. The work of the Secretariat is performed under the authority of the Director-General and in accordance with the Approved Programme and Budget adopted by the Organization’s General Conference.

Located within the Division for Cultural Expressions and Heritage of the Sector for Culture, the Section for Intangible Cultural Heritage is headed by the designated Secretary of the Convention and organized into four units:

1 - Governing Bodies and Processing Unit
2 - Programme and Evaluation Unit
3 - Capacity Building and Heritage Policy Unit
4 - Information and Communication Unit
