Description

Historical Centre of Pskov-city and its ancient environs include the historical and architectural ensemble in the centre of Pskov and the oldest natural and historical objects such as Budnik, Vybuty the Izboprsk Fortress in the Izborsk-Malsk Valley, monuments of nature, culture and early history of the old Russian state. The historical centre of Pskov has preserved its ancient kernel, the Kremlin, an outstanding ensemble of old Russian architectural fortifications of the XIII- XVIII centuries- monuments of civil architecture of the XVII-XXth centuries; the ecclesiastical architecture of the XVII-XXth centuries including the unique monuments of wall painting dating back to the XII-XIVth centuries, as well as architectural and historical monuments. The nearest environs such as Vybuty on the river Velikaya and Budnik on the Cheryokha-river- the archaeological, natural and ethnographic monuments relating to the founders of old Russia e.g. countess Olga of Russia, the legendary founder of Pskov, and Holy Vladimir, who baptised Russia. The suburban fortress of Izborsk in the Izborsk-Malsk Valley, the cultural and historical ensemble of archaeological, natural and ethnographic monuments (the traditional ethnic group Setu) of the VII-XX centuries.
