This workshop, which is being held in the Islamic Republic of Iran, is the first of a series of itinerant workshops which will bring together site managers from a selection of World Heritage sites in Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as cultural heritage authorities. At present there is little or no cooperation between the heritage professionals working in the region, despite the many similarities in types of heritage and the conservation challenges.

Objectives

  • focus on the common background and traditions of the sites, discuss specific conservation issues and identify solutions and conservation measures
  • identify future training needs
  • establish a network for exchange and ensure long-term cooperation in the region, as well as foster best conservation practices and site preservation

The workshops are organized as on site training programmes, held at specifically chosen sites, most of which are World Heritage properties and sites included on Tentative Lists.
