Within the framework of the World Heritage Convention and the follow up to the Periodic Reporting in Africa, the World Heritage Centre with the support of the United Kingdom's Department for Culture, Media and Sport, is organizing in collaboration with the South African authorities a "Capacity-building Workshop for Youth Leaders on the Values of Heritage Sites".

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute and Cape Action for People and the Environment Programme (C.A.P.E.) will host the capacity-building regional youth workshop in Kirstenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa from 21 - 25 May 2007.

The workshop aims at building the capacity of selected leaders of African youth organizations, from the West Indian Ocean Islands and from the coastal countries of eastern Africa, in the carrying out of environmental campaigns and awareness-raising activities, and in improving capacity in Natural World Heritage management. The Youth Leaders invited are from Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania and South Africa. The workshop will contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of the biological resources in the World Natural Heritage sites situated in the participating countries.
