This Conference offers an opportunity to show how cultural and heritage assets can be used to regenerate historic towns and cities.

In Gateshead and Newcastle, the assets of the past and the aspirations of the present have contributed to remarkable changes in the fortunes of the two places. The restoration and re-use of historic buildings, the creation of a new iconic building, the revitalisation of public spaces and a creative and positive approach to the links between the distinct areas of each place and the two districts will all be explored at this event.

The value of the historic environment and how this can be utilised to best effect will be demonstrated and discussed with sightseeing tours which will include The Sage (Gateshead) and Grainger Town (Newcastle).
