Within the HERMES Project, this is the second of four symposiums to be held and sixteen partners from eight countries will join forces in order to promote processes of regional development. This is to be achieved by means of innovative interactions between cultural heritage and New Media. HERMES’s budget totals 2 million Euros for a period of three years (2003-2006).

The project is co-ordinated by the Foundation Weimar Classic and Art Collections, while the accompanying scientific work is carried out by the Institute of European Urban Studies at Bauhaus University, and HERMES’s main objective is to develop new ways of utilizing heritage through the integration of electronic media.

Cultural monuments are preserved by means of enhanced perception and presentation, which simultaneously helps to strengthen regional development, inter alia by installing enterprises in historical buildings and  promoting tourism.
