UNESCO-UNEVOC hosts workshop for BIMUN participants

On 26 November 2015, UNESCO-UNEVOC organized a workshop for participants of the Bonn International Model United Nations (BIMUN) conference which was held from 26 to 29 November in Bonn, Germany. 25 students from 11 countries and from different universities discussed trends in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), especially in light of the recent adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In an enjoyable and engaging afternoon, the workshop provided a great opportunity for UNESCO-UNEVOC to connect with young people and discuss issues related to TVET.

Staff of UNESCO-UNEVOC welcomed students and presented an overview of what TVET encompasses and its importance for attaining the SDGs, and in particular Sustainable Development Goal 4 and Sustainable Development Goal 8. In this context, they explained what UNESCO-UNEVOC does to promote, advocate and advance TVET developments across the world. This included information on the UNEVOC Network and UNEVOC’s online resources. Students were asked to present on ways TVET contributed to SDGs. To this end, students were given three case studies and asked to define an action plan which would enable the respective countries to attain gender equality, fight youth unemployment and achieve sustainable development. The workshop ended with a question-and-answer round where students had the opportunity to ask questions about working for the United Nations.
