The Second International Conference “Global Warming and the Human-Nature Dimensions in Siberia: Social Adaptation to the Changes of the Terrestrial Ecosystem, with an Emphasis on Water Environment”

On 8-11 October 2013 the Second International Conference “Global Warming and the Human-Nature Dimensions in Siberia: Social Adaptation to the Changes of the Terrestrial Ecosystem, with an Emphasis on Water Environment” was held in Yakutsk (Sakha (Yakutiya) Republic). It was organised in cooperation of the North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature of Japan, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, and under projects of the European Union, such as “Changing permafrost in the Arctic and its Global Effects in the 21st Century” project and “International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic”.

The key topics of panel sessions and workshops were devoted to the impact of the global climate change on the Polar Regions’ environment. Over 90 researches and scientists from Russia, Japan, Germany, and Netherlands took part at the Conference and presented their researches on current state of climate, environment and ecology and ways of climate change mitigation.

The IITE UNESCO and its project “A Networked System of Open Indigenous Knowledge Resources for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Polar Regions” were represented by the Chief of the Section of Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials, Ms. Svetlana Knyazeva. She made a presentation of the intermediary project results at the Conference session “Human-Nature Interactions in the Changing Climate”.
