Expert Workshop on OER and MOOC at UNESCO IITE

On November 11, 2013 UNESCO IITE organized a workshop to discuss promising trends in the development of Open Educational Resources and Massive Open Online Courses in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The workshop was organized by the Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials Section. The workshop was organized by the Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials Section. The seminar was attended by representatives of universities and IT companies from Russia and CIS countries (via teleconference).

UNESCO IITE staff - Mr. Ivan Evmenev, Ms. Svetlana Knyazeva and Ms. Marina Tsvetkova - provided an overview of the experience of UNESCO and UNESCO IITE in promoting OER and MOOC in various countries around the world. An emphasis was made on the issues and future directions of movement of OER and MOOC in CIS, including the question of the formation of the International Public Advisory Council for OER CIS at the UNESCO IITE with the involvement of scientists and representatives of the leading universities in the Russian Federation and the CIS.

Mr. Evtyushkin (the Institute of the Information Society) identified the trends and the state of affairs for the dissemination of the Creative Commons licenses in Russia.

In his speech, Professor Starych identified promising directions of uniform collection of MOOC in Russia, and provided an overview of the experience and identified the most requested MOOC in engineering. Questions at the round table were raised by the representatives of Russia and CIS universities.  The participants shared their experience in the development of MOOC to participate as part of the UNESCO IITE Public Advisory Council in order to form a unified collection of OER and MOOC within the CIS space.
