Leadership and conflict solution on agenda of workshop for media professionals with management responsibilities in Shunyi.
A four-day training course, organized by UNESCO, the Chinese State Administration for Radio, Film and TV (SARFT) and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), was held last month in Shunyi Training Base of the SARFT Training Centre.

Conflict management plays an important role in enterprise culture, including in media organizations. The aim of the workshop was to help mid-level managers from media organizations to understand basic management mechanisms, analyze and define their leadership styles and deal with conflicts efficiently.

With Barbara Skerath, a senior expert of AIBD, as trainer, the courses covered a wide range of topics related to leadership and conflicts, such as:
  • Leadership styles,
  • Situational leadership,
  • Conflict signals,
  • Visible and invisible causes of conflicts,
  • Conflict dimensions,
  • Conflict behaviour patterns,
  • Different styles of conflict management, and
  • Effective communication in conflict situations.
The participants included the Vice Director of the SARFT Training center and representatives from CCTV, Beijing Radio Station and Beijing TV Station.

The workshop was the second joint activity of the three partners. Last October, they already conducted a two-week training of trainers programme on HIV/AIDS reporting for TV producers from the Chinese central and provincial media.
