Since the beginning of 2008, 67 young journalists and students in journalism from Bishkek and two Kyrgyzstan regions have been trained in political journalism under a project funded by UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).
The project entitled "Capacity building of young journalists in political reporting" aims at improving the quality of political reporting and analysis in media. It has become very popular among students and young journalists who would like to become political observers or correspondents. Several prominent politicians, well-known journalists and political scientists met with the participants of the training workshops organized in the framework of the project.
"I did not think that our project would become so popular," says Cholpon Orozbekova, Director of the Media Ordo centre. "Young journalists are eager to participate in the training workshops, which makes it very easy to work with them. I'm happy that the theme of my lecture is very successful. Currently a working group under my supervision is finalising a brochure on How to do political reporting respecting the principles of international journalism."
UNESCO's IPDC is the only multilateral forum in the UN system designed to mobilise the international community to discuss and promote media development in developing countries. The Programme not only provides support for media projects but also seeks an accord to secure a healthy environment for the growth of free and pluralistic media in developing countries.
