Outstanding experts on documentary heritage from Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Saint Lucia and the Bahamas met at the 9th Annual Meeting of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Programme (MOW) Regional Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean.
They examined 24 nominations of documentary heritage collections from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries submitted for the International and the Regional Memory of the World Registers.
The meeting, organized with the support of the government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and UNESCO, took place from 15 to 17 October 2008. Carl Bethel, Minister of Education of the Bahamas, opened the meeting that was attended by government officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The 16 nominations for the MOW International Register and 8 nominations for the Regional Register discussed during the meeting included works of exceptional value, such as:
