An international conference in Brasilia will assess the impacts of the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event will be hosted by UNESCO’s Brasilia and Santiago Offices, and the Department of Distance Education of the Brazilian Ministry of Education from 27 to 28 April 2010.
During the two-day event, entitled "The Impact of ICT in Education", experts in education, information and communication from international organizations and private sector, as well as educators and government representatives from Latin America, will discuss ways to reach the goals of education for all and education throughout life by using ICT in schools.

In this context participants will analyze measures, tools, institutional practices, training methods and impacts of ICT, thus contributing to the formulation of an effective public policy related to ICT4Education.

Two workshops will be held on 26 April, "Inclusion of ICT in Schools" and "Open Educational Resources: Building an International Debate on Public Policy". A third workshop, focusing on the role of media in the promotion and evaluation of ICT in education, is also planned to take place in the framework of the Conference.

A special website dedicated to the event has been developed by a local NGO, Communication Initiative. The website gathers all relevant information about the Conference: agenda, official documents, profiles of speakers and news. Furthermore, it is intended as an open space for dialogue and exchange of experiences related to the use of ICT in educational processes.

Users of the website will be able to follow the debates held at the Conference and to contribute to them through discussion forums (available in English, Portuguese and Spanish). In order to have access to all information about the Conference and to participate in the forums, they have to register in advance at the following address: http://groups.comminit.com/ict4education/en/. In addition, live webcast will allow following the Conference's debates in real time on 27 and 28 April, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
