Director-General welcomes the President of the Arab Parliament to UNESCO

UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, received the visit of H.E. Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Arab Parliament.

The President commended the Director General’s commitment to protect cultural heritage in the Arab countries and expressed the determination of the Arab Parliament to strengthen its cooperation with UNESCO  and the Arab League in this regard.

“The Arab Parliament is ready to assist in taking forward decisions and regulations of the UN and UNESCO to protect cultural and archaeological heritage in the Arab world and beyond” he stated.

The Director-General expressed UNESCO’s willingness to explore concrete ways to craft a partnership with the Arab Parliament and League of Arab States.

“Only by combining forces with the Arab Parliament and all key actors can we succeed in promoting our message of peaceful co-existence to counter violent extremism”, said Irina Bokova.

The President of the Arab parliament was accompanied by the Ambassador of the League of Arab States and Representative to UNESCO, as well by the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the UAE to UNESCO.
