UNESCO Recruits Communication and Information Adviser for Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan

UNESCO seeks its Communication and Information Adviser for Afghanistan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan . Based in the UNESCO office in Tehran, the Adviser will conceptualise and design programmes and projects in communication and information for UNESCO regular and extra budgetary funding.
The Advisor will work under the direct supervision of the Director of the Office in Tehran and in close collaboration with the Communication and Information Sector at UNESCO Paris Headquarters.

The incumbent will:

  • Conceptualise and design programmes and projects in communication and information in the context of UNESCO Regular Programme and Budget and Medium Term Strategy;

  • Assess the communication and information needs of Member States in the Cluster, conceptualise and design extra-budgetary projects responding to those needs and negotiate with donors to mobilize extra-budgetary funds;

  • Implement, monitor, evaluate and report on the communication and information programme activities under the Regular Programme and Budget, as well as extrabudgetary projects decentralised to the Office;

  • Contribute to the development of national action and sub-regional, regional and international strategies and cooperation in communication and information in cooperation with relevant international, national, governmental and non-governmental organizations;

  • Contribute to preparing the input of the Office to reports of the Director-General on implementation
    of Programmes;

  • Provide regularly news and information on communication and information programmes in Member
    States in the Cluster to UNESCO HQ for publication through UNESCO 's website and newsletters.


  • The incumbent of the post (Grade P-3, Post number AS/RP/IRA/CI/0001) should have an advanced university degree in communication or information, at least five years’ experience working on communication and information programmes at the international level, and demonstrated experience in managing regional and national communication and information projects and a proven track record for fund-raising for communication and information projects. Good knowledge of computer applications to communications and excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language are also required.
