The eighth technical symposium exploring issues affecting the audiovisual archival profession will be held in Oslo, Norway, from 3 to 5 May 2010, under auspices of UNESCO. The three-day event will examine different aspects of Digital Challenges and Digital Opportunities in Audiovisual Archiving.
The Joint Technical Symposium (JTS) is the international meeting for organizations and individuals involved in the preservation and restoration of original image and sound materials. Each of the preceding conferences developed themes relating to conservation and preservation from the viewpoints of the major types of collections: film, television and sound.
JTS 2010 will focus on: ensuring long term data integrity, HD in the archive domain, long-term preservation, scanning technologies, digital image processing and migration of audiovisual collections, among a range of other related subjects.
JTS is being organized by the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), under the auspices of UNESCO and in cooperation with other members of the Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA). CCAAA is an umbrella group of organizations whose primary objective is the support of professional audiovisual archive activities, and whose membership is primarily institutional and international (worldwide or regional). Its current members are:
Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA),
Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC),
International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF),
International Federation of Television Archives/Fédération Internationale des Archives de Télévision (FIAT/IFTA),
International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA),
International Council on Archives (ICA),
International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and
Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA)
