Jens Liebe

Consultant

Dr. Jens Liebe joined UNESCO-UNEVOC in August 2015 as a consultant for developmental and management support. In particular, his role is to identify development opportunities and strategies for the activation of UNEVOC’s network, to identify network performance indicators and to conceptualize a capacity development programme on TVET leadership.

Prior to joining UNESCO-UNEVOC, Jens served as Assistant Director of the UN-Water Decade Program on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC), which was a support program of UN-Water, the United Nations interagency mechanism on all freshwater related issues, including sanitation. He was a Senior Scientist at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) of the University of Bonn, where he served as scientific coordinator of the “GLOWA Volta Project” and coordinator of a follow-up project focused on developing research capacity in the Volta Basin of West Africa. Jens has worked for international organizations, research institutions and international development organizations and has extensive international work experience, particularly in Africa, but also in Europe, Asia and Latin and North America. He enjoys working at the interface of science and implementation and has published extensively.

Jens holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, and a M.Sc. in Geography from the University of Bonn. For his master thesis he was awarded the Hans-Hartwig Ruthenberg award, which honors excellent theses in the field of food security.
