Austria Establishes National Committee for Information for All Programme

Austria is now one of the more than forty countries that have National Committees for UNESCO’s Information for All Programme (IFAP). Established last week in Vienna in the framework of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO, the Austrian IFAP Committee aims at ensuring the implementation of the Programme in Austria and to worldwide showcase Austrian good practises for the Information Society.
According to a press release of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO, the Committee is composed of representatives of the Federal Chancellery, ministries, universities, archives and libraries, museums and other cultural institutions, as well as experts in the area of audiovisual media and cyber law. The Committee is chaired by Dietrich Schüller, Director of the Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, who is also Vice-president of the Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme.

Created in 2000, the Information for All Programme provides a platform for international policy discussions and guidelines for action on preservation of information and universal access to it, participation of all in the emerging global information society and ethical, legal and societal consequences of ICT developments. Its Intergovernmental Council is composed of representatives of 26 Member States guiding the planning and implementation.
