A network of South Asian young television producers specializing on HIV/AIDS issues was established last week in a meeting held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was attended by seventeen TV producers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The screening of their productions provided an opportunity of peer review of productions with HIV/AIDS expertise provided by UNESCO. The workshop conduct in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development enable the young producers to set correction perceptions in producing television programmes related to HIV/AIDS.
A second network meeting will be held from 16-21 December to review new TV programmes produced after acquiring the new knowledge on HIV/AIDS. UNESCO will produce a series of DVD-ROMs containing the best productions of this network and made them available to broadcasting organizations and advocacy groups in the region. It is planned to widen this production network to include countries from the Southeast Asia as well.
