Forum for African Parliamentarians for Education (FAPED)

  The African Forum of Parliamentarians on Education (FAPED) was created in 2002 during the Conference of Ministers of Education of African Member States (MINEDAF VIII) held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Its purpose is to promote education policies through strengthening partnerships with civil society and actors in the cultural, social and political sectors, as well as address issues such as poverty, the environment, corruption and information and communication technologies. UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Africa in Dakar supports this initiative.

The Forum essentially aims to:

• make more Parliamentarians aware of education issues;

• help Parliamentarians follow up on international conference commitments,

• strengthen the capacity of Parliamentarians by providing them with more support,

• increase resources for education by encouraging Parliamentarians to vote for more education funds;

• facilitate voting on education legislation;

• provide Parliamentarians from different backgrounds with a setting for exchange and cooperation;

• incite Parliamentarians to play a mediator role in education crises. >> More

• Report of the Second Meeting of the Executive Board. >>More
