UNESCO has recently launched a call on television and film professionals to submit production proposals for a series of production grants to contribute to the development of human rights, peace, tolerance and the fight against discrimination.
National broadcasters in developing countries and new democracies are often confronted with daily survival routines that prevent them from fulfilling their public service mandates.

Public service broadcasting entails independence from state and commercial influences, while having the ability to examine important public issues by providing programmes that include public debate, cultural expressions and educational programming aside from light entertainment.

It is also indispensible that public service broadcasting systems adapt to the rapidly-evolving information society, particularly in the integration of audiovisual, communication and information technologies.

This project aims at putting information and communication technologies (ICTs) to the use of programme development on major societal and development issues such as human rights, peace, tolerance and the fight against discrimination by providing public service broadcasters in developing countries with training, production and distribution opportunities in these areas.
