Media and Education for All in Jamaica

Some of Jamaica’s top media and education professionals meet to bring clarity and awareness to Education for All (EFA) in the media during a one day Seminar entitled "Building EFA Capacities among Jamaican Media Practitioners" in Jamaica's capital Kingston today.
The Seminar that is organized by UNESCO and the Creative Production Training Centre (CPTC), through its Media Technology Institute, seeks to combine the expertise of media practitioners across print, electronic and new media with educators at different levels of the education system, towards promoting and championing a deeper and wider understanding of EFA.
UNESCO Education Make News – Media Training Kit will be a basis for training and will employ a dual approach whereby there will be a cross-sharing of ideas between media and education professionals. Emphasis will be placed on EFA as a basic Human Right, reflecting on Human Rights Day, 10 December, 2005.
During the Seminar, a public luncheon session will also be held with an education pundit as the Guest Speaker and full media coverage. This will serve as a means of reinforcing the public message as to the collective responsibility of all in achieving EFA goals in Jamaica and indeed the Caribbean region.
In addition, the Seminar will contribute to laying the foundation for articulation and launch of an EFA Media Campaign in the Caribbean.
Representative from related organizations such as Caribbean Institute for Media and Communication (CARIMAC), the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ), UWI Institute of Education, and the Northern Caribbean University’s Communication Department will participate in the process.
