GMR Internship opportunities

Each year the Global Monitoring Report accepts a number of interns to assist the team in doing research and outreach/advocacy. We offer internships throughout the year.

Please note that the following information is for Global Monitoring Report Internships ONLY:

  • Internships are full-time, i.e. based on a 5-day, 40 hours work week, but may vary depending on the individual situation
  • Ideally, the length of an internship is three months
  • Internships are exclusively reserved for students pursuing a graduate or postgraduate degree programme. Interns must have already completed a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and be completing at least a Master’s degree at the time of application
  • Internships are unpaid and candidates who are accepted must prove that they carry health insurance
  • The GMR cannot provide housing
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining a valid visa, if necessary
  • The general UNESCO policy on internships applies. For further information see UNESCO guidelines

GMR Intern profiles

Al Sareya Preparatory School for girls

An ideal candidate for an internship with the GMR should have one of the following profiles:

Research: relevant academic background, preferably at the graduate-level, in social sciences (economics, political science, sociology, history) or other, depending on the theme of the annual GMR. Applicants should be familiar with public policy issues in education. Good research skills are vital as is ability to handle and interpret data. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Communications and media liaison: background in Social sciences, journalism and communication; exceptional writing and communication skills; fluent in English; fluency in other languages is an asset; experience in dealing with the press and the media; excellent presentation skills. Experience in the area of development is an asset.

Production and outreach: background in Social sciences, Publishing, Editorial Production, Web and content management. Experience managing databases is an asset; fluent in English; fluency in other languages is an asset.

  • AND send a copy of your application to Leila Loupis at l.loupis@unesco.org. Please specify which type of internship you are applying for in your e-mail: research, communications/media, or production/outreach. (ONLY send an e-mail if you are applying to an internship with the Global Monitoring Report.)

IMPORTANT: If you do not send us a copy of your application, the GMR team will not be able to know that you are applying specifically for a GMR internship.
