yesterday became a Member State of UNESCO after the Federal Republic’s Special
Envoy Segej Trifunovic deposited an instrument of acceptance in London and

- LAUNCH OF VIRTUAL “GLOBAL HERITAGE PAVILION” FOR JAPAN INTERNET FAIR
2001
UNESCO will launch the “Global Heritage Pavilion”, a website entirely
devoted to the world's cultural and natural heritage on December 31, 2000 to
represent the Organization in Internet Fair 2001 (INPAKU), a web-based event

- FIFTY CULTURE MINISTERS AT UNESCO ROUNDTABLE ON
CULTURAL DIVERSITY: CHALLENGES TO THE MARKETPLACE
The second roundtable of culture ministers opened today at UNESCO
Headquarters bringing together more than 50 ministers or deputy ministers, as
well as representatives of international organisations and non-governmental
organisations, who will discuss the theme: 2000-2010 Cultural Diversity:
Challenges of the Marketplace. From the outset, the roundtable emphasised

- CITY OF NUREMBERG NAMED LAUREATE OF UNESCO PRIZE
FOR HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION 2000
UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura has named the German city of
Nuremberg laureate of this year’s UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education on
the recommendation of an international jury that met in Paris on November 27 and

- WINNERS OF THE 2001 UNESCO PRIZE FOR CHILDREN’S
AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S LITERATURE IN THE SERVICE OF TOLERANCE
UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura today named the winners of
the 2001 UNESCO Prize for Children’s and Young People’s Literature in the
Service of Tolerance. La guerre (The War) by French author Anaïs
Vaugelade, won the award for the children’s under-13 category, while Istgahe
Mir (The Mir Space Station) by Iranian author Violet Razeqpanah came top of

- CONFERENCE OF ASIAN WOMEN FOR A CULTURE OF PEACE
OPENS IN HANOI
The Conference of Asian Women for a
Culture of Peace opened in Hanoi Wednesday morning with a call to women in the
region to co-ordinate their actions for peace and speakers stressed that there
can be no lasting peace without sustainable development and gender equality, and
