29-07-2005 (Paris) - The Memory of the World Programme will be the theme of the "UNESCO Open Forum" at the World Library and Information Congress that IFLA organizes from 14 to 18 August in Norway’s capital Oslo.
UNESCO prepares to launch new ICT teacher training project
26-07-2005 (Bangkok) - Preparing teachers to judiciously use technologies for teaching and learning is the aim of the Next Generation of Teachers (NET) Project, which is designed to assist teacher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. It is one of UNESCO’s most recent initiatives for the professional development of teachers that the Organization as supported for 60 years.
UNESCO launches Register of Good Practices in Language Preservation
18-07-2005 (Paris) - Increasing its efforts to provide project agents with the necessary tools for the safeguarding of languages in danger of extinction, UNESCO's Endangered Languages Programme is launching a world-wide call for submissions to its new 'Register of Good Practices in Language Preservation'.
UNESCO/ICT4D Jamaica regional workshop on digitization of cultural heritage in the Caribbean
15-07-2005 (Kingston) - Within the framework of its mandate to promote the preservation of cultural heritage, UNESCO, in collaboration with Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), the HEART Trust/NTA and the Institute for the Connectivity of the Americas, (ICA), will hold a 5-day regional workshop on the Digitization of Cultural Heritage and Digital Libraries in Jamaica, July 18-22, 2005.
Evolution of the digital divide. New report to be released in September
13-07-2005 (Paris) - ORBICOM, the International Network of UNESCO Chairs in Communications announces, that it will release a new report on measuring the “infostate” of 192 countries in the world in September 2005. It will be the second report produced in the framework of ORBICOM’s project “From the Digital Divide to Digital Opportunities: measuring Infostates for Development”.
HIV/AIDS media training starts in Cameroon
12-07-2005 (Paris) - Community radio practitioners gather today from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali and Niger to attend a week-long training that forms the basis of UNESCO’s “Science of HIV and AIDS” media training programme implemented since 2003 in Bangkok, Chennai, and Kampala.
Education Makes News! workshop in Zimbabwe
11-07-2005 (Harare) - Journalists from Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and the host Zimbabwe attended recently a workshop entitled "Education Makes News!". The workshop that run concurrently with Zimbabwe’s celebration of the Education for All (EFA) Week familiarized journalists with EFA’s Goals and objectives.
