UNESCO Launches Global Community Telecentre Resources Website
22-05-2002 (Paris)
Facilitating networking among community telecentres worldwide, through the sharing of information, experiences and resources related to practical telecentre implementation and management is the objective of a website just launched by UNESCO. The new online service contains an annotated and classified inventory of resources of potential use to community telecentres, multimedia centres and other local information and informatics initiatives.
The site that puts particular emphasis on the needs of the developing countries includes both links to a range of representative external resources and relevant information resources from the UNESCO's own programmes.
Within the site is a comparativepresentation of four local ICT based content produced in UNESCO Information for All projects, which is intended to be further developed in the future.
User suggestions of additional resources to be listed are welcome. Depending on user comment and need, the site may be extended in the future to include prospective and interactive services such as future events, discussions and enquiries.
