UNESCO Taps Industrial Resources for Training ICT Trainers

As more than 100 ICT experts from Eastern Europe and Central Asia have been trained in system and network design and administration since June 200I, UNESCO starts now to coordinate a new set of ICT training sessions, with private sector support mainly from the Republic of Korea.
The training within the framework of UNESCO’s ACCESS-net (Association of Computer Centres for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy) was organized in connection with several UNDP/UNESCO projects such as the Regional Academy for Advanced Network Administration and Design and the Regional Academy for Online Governance and System Administration, in collaboration with National Commissions for UNESCO.
"The new set of ACCESS-net training sessions is in reply to growing needs of ACCESS-net members for training of trainers in ICTs" says UNESCO project manager Yong-Nam Kim.
According to Kim, the main purposes of the ICT trainer training is to offer participants learning opportunities to use ICTs and to open up a new avenue in building a south-south cooperation framework to learn best practices on production-oriented ICT development opportunities in line with local needs.
"While being intended to pursue goals to train trainers in the industrial environment, we are now placing, at the initial stage, 10 ICT trainers selected from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in training hubs of the Republic of Korea under the full sponsorship of the Korean Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA)" says Kim
The sessions of training of trainers, which are taking place in several cities in Republic of Korea, include a 7 day-“High Authority and Top Manager Course” starting on 7 October, a 10 day-“Middle Manager Course in Information Security, E-commerce, Internet and System Integration” commencing on 24 September and a 12 day-“Telecom and Network Technologies Course on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) beginning on 11 November 2002.
Under the coordination of KIPA, a series of ICT industry bodies such as the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), the Asia Pacific Information Infrastructure Cooperation Center (APIICC) and the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI) are involved in the training sessions.
