    Ethiopian filmmakers address the development challenge
    Addis Ababa hosted the 3rd Ethiopian International Film Festival (3EIFF) from 24 to 30 November 2008 under the theme 'Value Each Other'. The event attracted widespread interest with over 20,000 visitors coming to see 50 films from 7 countries; 22 of these films were produced in Ethiopia.

They focused on the importance of parliamentary broadcasting in the context of Mongolia, and on the editorial independence, transparency and diversity of local media.

    The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, today condemned the murders of Pakistani journalists Abdul Razzak Johra, of the Royal TV network, on 3 November and Qari Mohammad Shoaib, of the Azadi and Khabar Kar newspapers, on 8 November. Mr Matsuura also voiced concern over the increasing number of attacks on reporters in the country.

The Centre has been established in the framework of the 45th anniversary of the Library, with the financial support of UNESCO’s Office in Moscow.

    The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, has named the laureates of the 2008 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education. They were selected on the recommendation of an international jury whose meeting this year was held in Bahrain for the first time.

The UNESCO Award for outstanding contribution to the promotion of cultural diversity went to the Iranian documentary feature film Tinar.
