First Group of Trainees Obtains “Microsoft-Certified Professionals” Certificate in Azerbaijan

10-12-2004 (Paris)
Trainees from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan obtained “Microsoft-certified Professional (MCP)” certificates this week after a 30-day UNESCO sponsored training course on advanced system technologies at the Regional Academy for Online Network Governance and System Administration (RAONGSA) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“The main purpose of the training was to establish one of two pivotal groups of specialists, both system and network professionals, who can set up and maintain local systems to ensure linkage between regional and national institutions” says UNESCO’s Yong Nam Kim.

The course provided hands-on training to local institutions to facilitate their effective cooperation with partners, focusing on designing and populating web-sites linked to databases of digital data and providing regular technical support to the region together with UNESCO-trained Cisco-certified specialists. The course consisted of five modules namely on:
  • Implementing and Supporting Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional

  • Managing a Microsoft® Windows® Server 2004 Environment

  • Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2004 Environment

  • Implementing a Microsoft® Windows® Server 2004 Network Infrastructure: Network Hosts, and

  • Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2004 Network Infrastructure: Network Services.
Alexandre Soukhodolski, Director of Center of Information Technology, Belarus, who sent one of his staff to the training module said “The training module on advanced system technologies in combination with the certification systems is highly desirable for successful capacity building of our ACCESS-net (Association of Computer Centers for Exploiting Sustainable Synergy) members because it gives enormous enthusiasm and encouragement to the participants. My staff who received the Microsoft Certified Professional from the MCP module can now continue to follow the next levels of the Microsoft-certified modules to obtain the top level of the Microsoft certifications. We hope very much that UNESCO will continue to foster such quality training in support of national capacity building.”

Since its creation in 2001, RAONGSA has developed two quality training courses for the certification on advanced network technologies and on advanced system technologies. To make sure that outcomes of training are measurable and in order to encourage participants, RAONGSA has introduced certification systems, which are based on online examinations developed by Cisco and Microsoft.
