To offer educational research and knowledge-based interventions that are innovative, cost effective and sustainable to our clients who support disadvantaged young South Africans through education development initiatives.
Objectives
To work with government, the private sector, international development agencies and education institutions to improve the quality of education and the relationship between education, skills development and the world of work.
Regular Tasks
JET has three divisions namely: Youth and Community Development (YCD), Education Evaluation and Research Division (EERD) and School Improvement Division (SID).

JET has three divisions namely: Youth and Community Development (YCD), Education Evaluation and Research Division (EERD) and School Improvement Division (SID).
The activities for each of the divisions is as follows:
YCD:
Providing technical Support to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to enhance planning and monitoring in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector;
• Demonstrating models of interventions to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning in Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges;
• Working with industry to secure workplace learning opportunities for FET College learners, either during the course of their studies or post-qualification, in order to enhance their employability;
• Demonstrating models of youth livelihood development with FET Colleges in
impoverished areas;
• Providing strategic research to support knowledge development in the VET sector.
EERD:
• Assisting with providing insights into the best paths for education development in South Africa;
• Providing enlightened and far-seeing intellectual leadership in education research both internal to JET as well as to others in the wider society interested in education development;
• Establishing highly productive, strategic relationships with universities and partners in industry, government and civil society;
• Securing funding to support education development and research programmes.
SID:
• Designing and implementing education development demonstration projects focusing on school improvement.
• Providing education improvement tools and strategies for schools and their communities.
• Developing the education planning task with a view to improving the planning function in the education subsystems, namely education departments, districts, circuits and schools.
