Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) is the largest institute of technology in the South Island, New Zealand. CPIT offers vocational, trade, commercial, professional, and community programmes at foundation, certificate, diploma, and degree levels. Degrees offered include Applied Science, Applied Management, Architectural Studies, Broadcasting Communications, Design, Engineering Technology (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical), Informationa and Communication Technologies, Language (Japanese), Language (Maori), Medical Imaging, Midwifery, Musical Arts, Nursing, Performing Arts (Musical Theatre), Social work, and Sustainability & Outdoor Education. The annual enrolment is approximately 22,000 individuals totalling 6,000 equivalent full-time students. In both teaching and research, the emphasis is placed on practical skills and applied theory and technology.
